Amotus builds the cloud back-end of connected products — device provisioning and fleet management, telemetry pipelines, APIs, and dashboards — on our Canadian, multi-region Fundamentum IoT platform — and, when your situation requires, on AWS IoT Core or Azure IoT Hub. We design for scale, security (zero-trust, mTLS), and data residency in the region you require, and we connect the cloud cleanly to the firmware and edge below it. Bilingual engineering team headquartered in Quebec City.

When you need an IoT cloud partner

You’re connecting a product to the cloud for the first time

You have a device and need the back-end: secure provisioning, telemetry ingestion, fleet management, OTA orchestration, and the APIs your app and customers consume. We build it to scale from the first ten devices to the millionth.

You’re migrating off a deprecated or costly platform

Google’s IoT Core was retired; some platforms have become expensive or limiting. We migrate device fleets and back-ends to Fundamentum — or to AWS/Azure if you require — with minimal disruption and a clear TCO story.

You need an IoT platform without building it from scratch

Rather than re-building device management, OTA, and dashboards for every project, our Canadian Fundamentum IoT PaaS gives you a tested foundation you can extend — faster time-to-market and data residency in the region you require.

Technologies & practices we work with

Area Technologies / practices
Fundamentum Our Canadian, multi-region IoT PaaS — device management, OTA, dashboards, data residency (default)
AWS (when required) IoT Core · Greengrass · Lambda · DynamoDB · Timestream · IaC (CDK/Terraform)
Azure (when required) IoT Hub · IoT Edge · Functions · Cosmos DB · Digital Twins
Backend / languages Go · Node/TypeScript · PHP (Laravel) · Python · Vue.js
Infrastructure Docker · Kubernetes · Terraform · CI/CD · observability
Security Zero-trust · mTLS · TLS 1.3 · per-device identity · secrets management
Data residency Multi-region (Canada, US, Europe…) · sovereignty-aware architecture

Transparency note: Amotus engineers secure, well-architected cloud systems, and Groupe Vectanor is SOC 2 Type II–audited (security, availability, confidentiality). We build systems that support our clients’ compliance programs and deploy in the regions their data-residency rules require.

Documented REST/GraphQL APIs, operator and customer dashboards, and integration with your ERP, CRM, or partner systems.

Deliverables: APIs, dashboards, integration adapters, API documentation.

Cloud migration

Migrating device fleets and back-ends from deprecated or costly platforms to Fundamentum — or to AWS/Azure if you require — with a TCO analysis and a low-disruption cutover.

Deliverables: migration plan, TCO analysis, data/device migration, cutover & rollback plan.

Cloud security & architecture review

Zero-trust architecture, mTLS, least-privilege IAM, secrets management, and a security review of an existing deployment.

Deliverables: architecture & threat review, hardening recommendations, IAM model, remediation plan.

Our cloud methodology

  1. Requirements & data residency — scale, latency, sovereignty, integration needs
  2. Architecture — platform choice (Fundamentum by default; AWS/Azure if required), security model, cost model
  3. Build with IaC — reproducible infrastructure, CI/CD, observability
  4. Security hardening — zero-trust, mTLS, least privilege, secrets
  5. Scale testing — load and failure testing before launch
  6. Operate — monitoring, cost optimization, ongoing support

Project example — connected-product cloud back-end

Project: a scalable, secure cloud back-end for a connected fleet — provisioning, telemetry, OTA, and dashboards — the cloud layer of Amotus’s hardware-to-cloud projects, often delivered on or alongside the Fundamentum platform.

What we engineered:

  • Secure per-device provisioning with mTLS identity
  • Telemetry ingestion and time-series storage at fleet scale
  • OTA orchestration integrated with device firmware
  • Operator dashboards and documented APIs, with data residency in the region you require

Tech stack: Fundamentum · Go / TypeScript · Terraform · Docker/K8s · TLS 1.3 (AWS IoT Core / Greengrass when required)

Most of our clients operate under confidentiality agreements, so project details on this site are kept at the technical level. We can discuss relevant, reference-checkable experience under NDA during a qualification call.

Frequently asked questions — IoT cloud

How do you handle data security?

Security is a first-class design requirement, not an afterthought. We work to SOC 2 Type II–audited practices (Groupe Vectanor), with zero-trust architecture, mTLS between devices and cloud, encryption in transit and at rest, and data residency in the region you require on our multi-region Fundamentum platform (Canada, US, Europe, and more). Your data stays yours, with clear ownership and open export.

Which IoT cloud platform is right for you?

We start from our Canadian, multi-region Fundamentum platform — it gives you device management, OTA, dashboards and data residency out of the box, so you avoid re-building them. When your situation calls for it, we also build on AWS IoT Core (broadest IoT service set) or Azure IoT Hub (tight Microsoft-stack integration), and Fundamentum can interface with them. We recommend based on your situation.

Google retired IoT Core — how do I migrate?

Google Cloud IoT Core was discontinued, stranding many fleets. We migrate device identities, connection logic, and data pipelines to Fundamentum — or to AWS/Azure if you require — with a phased cutover so devices stay online, plus a TCO comparison so you choose with eyes open. This is exactly the kind of migration we do.

When should I use a platform like Fundamentum instead of raw cloud?

If you’d otherwise re-build device management, OTA, and dashboards for each product, a PaaS like our Canadian, multi-region Fundamentum saves months and gives you data residency in the region you require out of the box. If you have very specific or unusual requirements, a custom build on raw AWS/Azure may fit better. We’ll tell you honestly which path serves you.

How do you secure an IoT cloud?

Per-device identity (no shared secrets), mTLS for device connections, least-privilege IAM, encrypted storage and transport (TLS 1.3), secrets management, and audit logging — a zero-trust posture where every request is authenticated and authorized. Security is architected in, not patched on.

Where can our data live? Can you keep it in a specific region?

Yes. On our multi-region Fundamentum platform you choose the region (Canada, US, Europe, and more); we also deploy in AWS/Azure regions when required — designing for data residency and sovereignty where your sector (public, health, finance) requires it.

How much does an IoT cloud back-end cost?

A solid connected-product back-end (provisioning, telemetry, fleet/OTA, dashboards, APIs) commonly represents 500 to 1,200 engineer-hours to build, roughly CAD $80,000 to $200,000, plus ongoing cloud-runtime costs that scale with fleet size. Using Fundamentum can reduce the build effort substantially. These are industry-typical ranges.
